SOLAR ENERGY STORAGE SOLUTIONS

Solar Energy Storage Solutions

Indian Electricity sector is undergoing fundamental changes in utilisation of electrical energy. The transformation brings in Variable Renewable Energy sources to the network and its optimisation through large-scale storage systems.

For the first time in Kerala, a seminar was conducted in Thiruvananthapuram on Solar Energy Storage Solutions on 27 July 2018. The seminar was organized by Raychem RPG, in association with Soura Natural Energy Solutions India Pvt Ltd and supported by Anert, the State Nodal agency for Renewable Energy. The venue of the Seminar was the Hotel Taj Vivanta. The participants in the event included Technocrats from Department of Power, State Utility major KSEBL, Nodal Agency Anert, State Electrical Inspectorate, Energy Management Centre, C-DAC, INKAL, DER operators, Distribution Licensees, Open Access Consumers, Smart City, Academy, Consultants and various other market participants.

The technical presentation was made by Raychem RPG. Director Mr Nitin Sharma and his team made the presentation which covered Battery for different applications in the energy network. Specific usages with a brief idea on storage selection and sizing were enumerated, with case studies. A detailed comparative analysis of different battery technologies was covered in the two-hour long presentation.

The Question & Answer session followed, had wide interactions with the audience. The queries ranged from design factors to commercial viability of the concept. Product demo was also arranged as part of the Seminar for the participants to get a first hand feel about the ESS.

A panel discussion followed the technical session. Dr Harikumar R - Director Anert, Sri Joseph- Chief Engineer (REES) of KSEB, Sri Anil G- Jt Director EMC, Prof Dr Sasi K -Amrita Viswa Vidyalaya and Sri G.Sivaramakrishnan - Jt Secretary of Kerala Renewable Energy Entrepreneurs & Promoters Association (KREEPA) represented various sections of the stakeholders. Speakers commonly felt the need for policy support mechanisms in our state to promote Hybrid and evolving Micro grid models.  The CE emphasized the necessity of Battery storage in curtailment of line congestion and enhancement of power quality.

The forum deliberated the advantages of energy storage and the opportunity it throws in the renewed energy portfolio. The key takeaways from the proceedings of the day shall be a guiding source for future energy programmes in our state.

Mr Manoj Nair, CEO of Soura Natural Energy thanked the Industry members for active participation in the seminar. He thanked profusely the SNA Anert for its proactive support in the conduct of the seminar. He assured that similar technical events shall be held in other parts of the state in due course as part of the campaign undertaken by Soura in Clean energy propagation and thereby contributing to India’s efforts in climate change mitigation committed by this country as per Paris Convention.

Advantages of Using Solar Power in Petrol Pumps

India has over 50,000 petrol pumps catering to the demand of the country. And do you know how much electricity a petrol pump needs every day? It requires more than 5 KW of electricity every day for their operations. This amounts to a total capacity of over 1,440 KW of power required for a year per petrol station. Running your petrol pump on electricity is possible in the big and medium cities but the petrol pumps, especially in rural India, derive power from diesel generators sets as they do not have a continuous power supply or do not have power lines.  The operation cost for running the pumps on diesel generators sets is very high. So using solar panels is more advantageous than a diesel generator. Use of solar energy in petrol pumps has proven to offer reliable operations of dispensing units even in load shedding hours. The dispensing units last long as the solar system provides superior power quality. Advantages: Can be used on pre-installed inverters Economic, Smal

Solar Energy in Transportation

As we all know solar energy is obtained from the sun’s radiation and it can be converted into electricity or heat. It is freely available and thanks to advances in technology, we can now harness even more of the solar energy that is continuously available to us. Solar energy is not only sustainable, it is renewable and this means that we will never run out of it. It is about as natural a source of power as it is possible to generate electricity. The creation of solar energy requires little maintenance. Once the solar panels have been installed and are working at maximum efficiency there is only a small amount of maintenance required each year to ensure they are in working order. They are a silent producer of energy. There is absolutely no noise made from photovoltaic panels as they convert sunlight into usable electricity. There are continual advancements in solar panel technolog y which are increasing the efficiency and lowering the cost of production, thus making it, even m

SOLAR PV COOK STOVES FOR CLEAN ENERGY COOKING

Globally, 2.8 billion people lack access to clean cooking facilities. By 2030, 2.3 billion people will still lack access to clean cooking facilities. In India, an estimated 780 million people rely on biomass for cooking., (almost 60% of households still cook with biomass). The country with the largest population without clean cooking access, Indian government promotion of LPG and improved biomass cookstoves means that over 300 million people gain access to clean cooking facilities by 2030, but more than one person in three remains without. In contrast with the huge strides made in electricity access in India, the number of people without clean cooking access over the last 15 years has only increased by 80 million. Women spend on average 1.4 hours a day collecting fuelwood and four hours for cooking and also suffer the most from household air pollution: they must be at the heart of finding solutions. An estimated 2.8 million people die every year from diseases linked to indoor air
